Our story

Hello, we’re Ellen and Greg, the people behind the People Development Company. Based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, we help clients across the UK with their leadership and management needs. Simply put, we love helping businesses get outstanding results through great leadership.

With combined experiences of great (and not so great) leadership gained across a diverse range of roles, organisations and sectors we have seen first-hand the impact poor leadership and management can have. Getting it wrong often leaves staff feeling demotivated and disengaged, despite the best of intentions.

As leaders, we can sometimes think that we have to behave a certain way to be successful, when in fact strong teams are built on truth, honesty and – dare we say it – vulnerable leadership. Imagine the difference it could make if you and your colleagues were able to identify, explore and make best use of your strengths whilst aligning performance with the goals of your organisation. Working together with our clients to understand what truly makes the difference to organisational performance has led us to the firm belief that successful leaders are genuine leaders. It was on this foundation that the People Development Company was formed.

We also want to make sure we practice what we preach and have committed to our own ongoing professional development. For this reason, Ellen is currently taking a lead on the day-to-day running of the People Development Company while Greg studies law to allow us to broaden the services we offer to our clients in the future. If you contact us, it’s likely you’ll work with Ellen – with Greg working hard behind the scenes in the short-term.

Meet Ellen
Hi, I’m Ellen. Thank you for your interest in the People Development Company.

I have over 20 years’ experience in leadership, management and personal development. Authentic leadership and the transformational impact it has on business performance is my passion.

I began my career within a multinational health and beauty business, progressing through the company to hold a number of senior leadership positions. During this time, I was accountable for a multi-million-pound business and the leadership of people working across 20 sites across the UK.

I made the life-changing choice to start the People Development Company with Greg, a previous colleague and now friend, when my youngest child, Sofia, was just a tiny newborn. Greg and I still laugh about where it all began, having our first board meetings in my house knee deep in nappies!

We had a very clear ethos from day one that the business would be built on real experiences, real people and real life. We’ve stayed true to that principle. For years we had come across people who felt they were unable to be themselves and leaders who tried to mould people into what they thought made a great manager. We believe passionately about turning that on its head. It’s all about inspiring people to be the best version of themselves.

The nappies are in the past now, but in case you’re wondering, Sofia still joins our board meetings, joined occasionally by her siblings Ellis and Asa, only now she commands her very own seat with her own flip chart and pens!

Hello and welcome. I’m Greg – thanks for visiting our site.

I’m a pharmacist and have worked within a number of senior leadership roles spanning corporate retail, legal, not-for-profit membership organisations and the public sector.

I feel passionately about the difference that staff working on the front line of an organisation can make to its success and have supported a number of organisations to build connections between the front line and senior leadership.

I’m an experienced public speaker and also bring a wealth of experience in governance, policy development and data protection – helping organisations to lay the right foundations upon which to build success.

I’ve experienced a number of different leadership styles throughout my career and truly believe that allowing and enabling people to be themselves and valuing their differences gets the best results. We teach you the theory, support you with the practical and coach you on the job to help you to do just that. And we genuinely care about your success. The People Development Company isn’t about quick fixes or box ticking – it’s about offering you a bespoke solution that delivers results for you.

On a personal note, above all, I’m a proud dad of two wonderful children. I learn a lot from them and they make me want to change the world for the better. That’s a big part of the reason Ellen and I started the People Development Company – if we can do even a bit of that, by helping other people and organisations to develop, we’ll both be very happy!
